The Škoda Kodiaq is the second SUV from the Czech car manufacturer Škoda Auto after the Škoda Yeti . The name of the SUV is derived from the Kodiak bear , a subspecies of the brown bear.

history

Škoda provided a first preview of the Kodiaq at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2016 with the six-seat VisionS concept study . The series version was presented in Berlin on September 1, 2016 , and the vehicle had its public premiere at the Paris Motor Show in October 2016. The vehicle has been at dealerships since March 2017.

The SUV is built together with the Seat Ateca and the Škoda Karoq in the Czech Škoda plant in Kvasiny . Production started in October 2016.

At the IAA 2017, Škoda presented the model in the Scout and Sportline equipment variants. The Kodiaq Scout has all-wheel drive as standard and can be recognized by its off-road look. The Kodiaq Sportline, on the other hand, should set sportier accents.

For the 2020 model year, the Kodiaq was slightly revised. Among other things, the Škoda logo on the rear gave way to lettering. The revised lane change assistant now monitors vehicles in the blind spot up to 70 meters away.

Drive and technology

Technically, the Kodiaq, like the shorter VW Tiguan II , Audi Q3 and Seat Ateca, is based on the VW Group's modular transverse toolkit . The series version is a five-seater, optionally two more seats can be supplied for a third row of seats. At the market launch on March 4, 2017, the Kodiaq was available with three gasoline engines with an output between 92 kW (125 PS) and 140 kW (190 PS) and two diesel engines with 110 kW (150 PS) and 140 kW (190 PS). The 92 kW (125 PS) 1.4 TSI has not been available since June 2018. With the exception of the entry-level petrol 1.5 TSI ACT 110 kW (150 PS), all- wheel drive is possible with all engines ; the vehicles with the most powerful petrol or diesel engines have it as standard.

With the Škoda 4 × 4 drive, the rear axle is only engaged when required via an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch. In normal operation, only the front wheels are driven, which has advantages for the vehicle's consumption due to lower friction losses. However, as soon as the front axle or the wheels need more grip, the electronics switch on the rear-wheel drive via the multi-disc clutch in milliseconds.

In China, there is another engine to choose from with the 162 kW (220 PS) two-liter gasoline engine from the Škoda Superb III .

At the Paris Motor Show in October 2018, Škoda presented the Kodiaq RS, the top model in the series. It is powered by a 176 kW (240 PS) two-liter diesel engine and should accelerate to 100 km / h in seven seconds.
