Lettering Superb

The Škoda Superb II is the second generation of the Superb presented in March 2008 at the Geneva Motor Show . The vehicle gets some of its technical components from the Volkswagen Group's modular system. However, the platform of the VW Passat B5 (PL45 +) with longitudinally installed engines is no longer used, but the platform PQ46 for transversely installed engines , as in the VW Passat B6 and VW Passat CC . The different wheelbases are achieved with “spacer” elements in the floor pan.

The second generation has grown further - mainly in the interior. While the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt maintained the grouping of the Superb in the middle class segment , the specialist press assigns the Superb II to the upper middle class in part. The notchback model (like the Octavia sedan) now has a large tailgate .

Model history

The start of sales for the Superb II took place at the beginning of July 2008 at prices from 22,990 euros (based on 1.4 TSI).

At the IAA 2009 , a classic station wagon was also shown as a body variant; it has been sold since January 2010. The engines, with the exception of the 1.9 TDI, correspond to the sedan.

At Auto Shanghai 2009 the “Superb Hao Rui” was presented for the Chinese market.

For the Czech presidency of the EU in the first half of 2009, the members received a total of 27 vehicles with a 3.6 FSI V6 with 191 kW, all-wheel drive and DSG gearshift.

Facelift

In June 2013 there was a facelift . Essentially, adjustments were made in the front area (headlights) and LED lights were now also available in the rear lights for the station wagon. In the interior, Škoda only changed the design of the steering wheel and dashboard. Among other things, the engine range was technically revised.

Production of the second Superb ended in June 2015.

technology

In addition to the five- and six-speed manual gearboxes, the two 2.0-liter diesel engines for the 1.8-liter TSI petrol engine were standard for the 2.0-liter TSI petrol engine as well as for the 3.6 -Liter- VR6 engine a direct shift gearbox (DSG) available. Four-wheel drive was optionally available for the 1.8-liter petrol engine and the 2.0-liter diesel engine with 103 kW and 125 kW; it is standard on the VR6.

A technical innovation was the optional Adaptive Front Light System AFS with cornering , cornering light and motorway light that adjusts the light cone and the headlights inclination of the current driving situation. Also new were an electronic automatic air conditioning, an automatic park steering assistant and up to nine airbags. The touchscreen navigation system RNS 510 from VW was now also offered under the name Columbus with hard drive.

The tailgate of the stepped rear, known as Twindoor , can be opened in two stages : On the one hand, only the trunk lid can be opened to load smaller items. On the other hand, there is the option of lifting the entire tailgate with the rear window and thus gaining greater access to the luggage compartment with a capacity of 565 to 1670 liters.

safety

In Euro NCAP - Crash test of Superb II was evaluated in 2008 with five stars out of five. In the assessment of the occupant safety of adults, the tested vehicle achieved 90% and in the occupant safety of children 81% of the maximum possible number of points. The vehicle received 50% of the points in the area of pedestrian protection, the standard safety equipment was rated with 71% of the possible number of points.

Engines

06/2008 - 05/2013

All engines are installed horizontally to save space and come from the VW group.

In the models with all-wheel drive, the system called "4-Motion" in the VW Group is used. The power distribution between the front and rear axles is controlled by an electrohydraulic multi-plate viscous coupling ( Haldex coupling, 4th generation). Under normal conditions, the front wheels are driven with 96% of the drive force, the rear wheels are supplied with drive force via the Haldex coupling if required.

With the revision in mid-2013, the diesel engines and the 1.4 TSI received a start-stop system.

There was a reassessment of the standard cycle with regard to CO 2 emissions for all engine-transmission combinations . The combination of diesel engine with DSG and 4x4 has only been offered with the 170 hp engine since the facelift.

Models and equipment options

GreenLine

A special feature is the Škoda Superb GreenLine , which was built as a combi and sedan. This is a fuel-saving version that is equipped with the 1.6-liter common rail TDI. The engine has an output of 77 kW (105 hp) and should consume around 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers. Many optional extras are not available in this version.

Comfort

The Comfort equipment line includes a. ESP and ABS , the Climatic air conditioning system , a driver's knee airbag, fog lights and a multifunction display .

ambition

In addition to Comfort , this more upscale equipment line also includes Climatronic air conditioning, a CD radio and heated front seats.

Elegance

Until the appearance of the L&K equipment, Elegance was the highest and most expensive equipment line; In addition to the previous ones, it also offers bi-xenon headlights (until 09/2010), leather upholstery (until 09/2010, not standard in Austria and Switzerland), 17-inch alloy wheels and a multifunction steering wheel.

By reducing the equipment, the necessary gap to the full equipment was created to create space for another equipment line.

L&K (Laurin & Klement)

L&K as the highest equipment line has some additional equipment features that were already standard in the Elegance line until the devaluation (leather, xenon). There are also other minor extras such as heated seats or tinted windows. The leather interior in dark brown, like the 18 inch Sirius rim, is reserved for the L&K.

For Germany there are generously discounted package solutions such as premium packages and business packages only for Elegance. The paradox of this is that if the L&K line is selected, the vehicle is around 1,500 euros more expensive with the same equipment (as of 2013).

EVC S7electric

EVC S7electric

The Czech company EVC converted the Škoda Superb II (sedan) into electric cars in 2012 . The trunk remained free, so the usable interior corresponded to a normal petrol version. EVC specified a maximum speed of 130 or 170 km / h for different versions. According to the EVC, the range is between 130 and 300 kilometers. The electric motor produced up to 65 kW. The vehicle needed 675 kWh for the 3,000 kilometers in stages from Paris to Prague . This corresponds to 22.5 kWh / 100 km.
