The Škoda Karoq is a compact SUV from the Czech manufacturer Škoda Auto . At the end of 2017, the vehicle replaced the Škoda Yeti, which was built from 2009 . The Karoq is based on the MQB A1 , like the Seat Ateca, which has been built since 2016, and the VW T-Roc, which was also launched in 2017 . As with the Škoda Kodiaq, the name of the SUV is derived from the natives of the Kodiak Island off the southern coast of Alaska . “Karoq” is a combination of the terms “Kaa'raq” (car) and “Ruq” (arrow).

history

The SUV was presented in Stockholm on May 18, 2017 and has been available from dealers since November 4, 2017. At the Paris Motor Show in October 2018, Škoda presented the Karoq Scout, a new equipment variant.

Technical specifications

Škoda offers the Karoq with two gasoline engines of different power levels and two diesel engines in three power levels. With the exception of the 140 kW (190 hp) engines, all variants are equipped with front-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission as standard . All-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual clutch transmission are available as options.

Production sites

The Karoq has been built together with the Kodiaq and the Ateca since the end of July 2017 at Škoda’s Czech plant in Kvasiny . In January 2018, due to the high demand, production also started at the Škoda Mladá Boleslav plant . Since the Czech Škoda plants are working to full capacity, which means that delivery of the vehicle is delayed by months, the vehicle has also been produced at Volkswagen Osnabrück since May 2018 . The Karoq is the first Škoda vehicle to be produced in Germany.

Registration numbers

In the first year of sales 2017, 2332 Karoqs - 805 of them with diesel drive and 736 with all-wheel drive - were newly registered in the Federal Republic of Germany. In 2018, out of a total of 21,054 vehicles, 6,428 were diesel-powered and 4,088 were all-wheel-drive. In 2019, 11,763 of a total of 30,660 Karoq had a diesel drive and 9,988 all-wheel drive.

Awards

In 2017 the Karoq won the Golden Steering Wheel in the compact SUV category .
