The Škoda plant in Mladá Boleslav is the main plant of the Czech automobile manufacturer Škoda Auto in Mladá Boleslav and the neighboring town of Kosmonosy . Vehicles with the highest numbers of units are traditionally produced in this plant. With 19,560 employees in 2013, it is the largest plant of this automobile manufacturer; it takes up a large part of the urban area, even extends beyond it and is the main employer in the region. The central administration is also located at the main plant. The manufacturer's development and design office is located at the private Škoda Auto Vysoká škola University in Mladá Boleslav. Outside the urban area in the Mladá Boleslav district , the plant is expanding in a new industrial area in the Plazy municipality , as there is no longer any space available in the city.

The Škoda models Škoda Fabia (1999), Škoda Octavia (1996) and Škoda Rapid (2012) as well as on behalf of Seat Toledo (2012) have been produced in the plant. Before that, the 440 / Octavia (1955/1959), 1000 MB / 1100 MB (1964), 100/110 (1969), 742 (1976), Favorit (1987), Felicia (1994) models were produced there. Models with special body shapes (coupe, convertible, SUV) and smaller quantities ( Škoda Superb ) traditionally roll off the assembly line in Kvasiny , while the smaller Vrchlabí plant has only been producing transmissions since 2012.

Three-cylinder engines and transmissions for the Volkswagen Group are developed and built in Mladá Boleslav. A foundry enables the independent production of vehicle components.

history

In 1895 Václav Laurin and Václav Klement started producing bicycles in this plant. Four years later, the production of motorcycles began. In 1905 the first automobile was produced with the Voiturette A. In 1925 the two companies Laurin & Klement and the Škoda-Werke Pilsen merged. The plant then became the property of Škoda, and then, in addition to car models, trucks, buses, agricultural machinery and aircraft engines were also produced here.

On May 9, 1945, unknown bombers attacked the factory in Mladá Boleslav. The body shops, the physics and chemistry laboratory and the design office with all the old archived plans were destroyed. In the last year of production of the Tatra 600 , production was relocated to Mladá Boleslav in order to be able to use the capacities in the Moravian Tatra plant more efficiently for truck production.

In the early 1960s, a new, automated plant was built for the new Škoda 1000 MB , in which the gearbox and four-cylinder engines were assembled. In August 1969, a fire destroyed large parts of the plant. A new hall with a production line was built for the Škoda Octavia I. As part of the launch of the Rapid vehicles and the same vehicle with the name Toledo under the Seat brand, a new production hall was completed in 2012. In 2014 Mladá Boleslav celebrated the production of 11 million vehicles so far.
