Location of the Okres Mladá Boleslav

The Okres Mladá Boleslav (German: District Jungbunzlau ) is a district in the north of the Středočeský kraj in the Czech Republic . In the middle it is bisected by the Jizera ( Iser ) and extends from the hilly north to the flat south. The highest point is Mužský vrch (463 meters), the lowest point is the mouth of the Jizera in the Elbe (170 meters).

The third largest district in the district has an area of ​​1,023 km² and 115,000 inhabitants who live in 120 communities. 67% of all residents live in the eight towns of the district Mladá Boleslav , Benátky nad Jizerou , Mnichovo Hradiště , Bělá pod Bezdězem , Bakov nad Jizerou , Kosmonosy , Dobrovice and Dolní Bousov . With an age index of 89.7 and an average age of 39.4, it is one of the regions with a favorable demographic situation.

Industry developed early in the district. Textile, paper and metal processing companies partly replaced agriculture. After 1895, the automotive industry was added, founded by Laurin & Klement , today's Škoda plants. In addition to this largest employer, the following large companies should be mentioned: TRW-carr, Delphi Packard Electric, Delphi Czech Republic, Behr Czech, AKUMA, SAI Automotive Bohemia. In the south, mainly cereals and sugar beets are grown in agriculture, in some cases also vegetables.

54% of the population have a job, 44% of them in manufacturing. At 19,180 kroner, wages reach the highest level outside of Prague. Unemployment is 5.2%, making it one of the lowest in the republic.

The district also has a rich fund of historical and cultural monuments in all architectural styles:

Natural monuments include Drábské světničky and Jabkenická obora. The composer Bedřich Smetana lived here for a while . Nationally protected nature parks are Český ráj , Rečkov, Klokočka and Radouč as well as Černý orel, Lom u Chrástu, Skalní sruby Jizery and Vrch Baba u Kosmonos.
