The Prague-East District (District Prague-East) is located in the Central Bohemian Region . It extends over 755 km² and consists of 110 communities.

The Okres Praha-východ belongs to the Středočeský kraj around the capital Prague. In the north lies the Brandýs plain, in the south the hills of the Bohemian massif begin .

Around 100,000 people live in the district, half of them in the seven towns of Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav , Říčany , Čelákovice , Úvaly , Klecany , Odolena Voda and Mnichovice .

The history of industrialization in this area begins with the construction of the Ringhofer hammer mill in Kamenice in 1825. It was the beginning of non-ferrous metal processing. In addition, mechanical engineering, the food and wood processing industries developed. The largest employer is the aircraft manufacturer Aero Vodochody. In addition to industrial companies, research institutes and, due to the proximity to Prague, also retail chains ( Billa in Modletice , Plus-Discount in Radonice , Penny Market in Jirná , Mountfield in Mnichovice) have settled in the district.

53 percent of the population are employees, 22 percent of them in industry and just under 3 percent in agriculture. The number of residents, but also the standard of living, is increasing due to the availability of buildable land. The gross wage of 18,594 crowns is the second highest in the Czech Republic after Prague. The unemployment rate is low at 3.8 percent.

The heavily cultivated area has only a few nature reserves. The most famous is Větrušická rokle with its rock formations on the right bank of the Vltava.
