Lázně Toušeň ([ ˈlaːzɲɛ ˈtɔʊʃɛɲ ]) (German Bad Tauschim ) is a spa town in the Středočeský kraj region ( Czech Republic ).

history

Church of St. Florian

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1293, but before that it had been inhabited for five centuries. The place served as a guard post for the Elbe ford, which was on the Salzweg. In the 13th century, Tauschin was part of the king's fiefdom. Under the rule of Johann von Luxemburg , the lands came into the hands of the Lords of Michalovitz . Charles IV wrote his religious thoughts here during his stay, which he later wrote down in his memoirs. During the Hussite Wars , the place was besieged by Jan Želivský and later occupied by Prague armies. In 1468 the city returned to the hands of the Bohemian King George of Podebrady , but his sons sold it again. At the beginning of the 16th century, the mayor of Prague Jan Pašek z Vratu bought the place, began building the Renaissance chateau and planted the first vineyards and hop gardens. In 1547 the place belonged to the Crown again, this time the owner was the Bohemian King and later Emperor Ferdinand I. At the beginning of the 17th century, Tauschin was a station of the Wroclaw and Silesian Post. The place was destroyed by the Swedes during the Thirty Years' War. Only at the end of the 17th century, when the village came into the hands of the Waldstein family , did it experience a new boom. In the second half of the 19th century a market was set up, a sugar factory was opened in 1868 and the bathing establishments were built by Jan Králík in 1868 . 1979 the place was raised to the city. In 1991 it lost its town charter and became a health resort. In 2006 the status of a mesty was renewed .

The spa has had several famous visitors, including the poet Josef Svatopluk Machar , the last Austrian Emperor Karl I , the composer Leoš Janáček , the opera singers Emil Pollert and Otakar Mařák , the actor and director Karel Želenský, the writers Josef Čapek and Karel Čapek , the long-distance runner Emil Zátopek and others. The athletes Jarmila Kratochvílová , Helena Fibingerová , Ludvík Daněk , Jan Železný and Petr Korda , the opera singer Jarmila Novotná , writers Adolf Branald and Bohumil Hrabal recovered from contemporary personalities .
