Petr Korda (born January 23, 1968 in Prague ) is a former Czech tennis player .

Career

Korda first caused a sensation when he reached the final of the French Open in 1992 , which he lost to the American Jim Courier . In 1993 he won the highly endowed Grand Slam Cup in Munich in the final against Michael Stich after a hard-fought match.

His greatest success was the 1998 final victory against Chilean Marcelo Ríos at the Australian Open , the only Grand Slam title of his career. After this victory, Korda rose to second place in the ATP world rankings. After his quarter-final at Wimbledon in the same year, he tested positive for nandrolone and was banned for a year.

In total, Korda won 10 singles titles and 10 doubles titles in his career. During his career, he earned $ 10,448,450 in prize money.

Korda is married to Regina Rajchrtová , a former tennis player. The eldest daughter Jessica (born February 27, 1993) is a professional golfer on the LPGA Tour . As an amateur, she took 19th place at the 2008 US Women's Open , accompanied by her father as a caddy . In February 2012 she won her first tournament with the Women's Australian Open . His younger daughter Nelly (* 1998) also became a golf professional in 2016. His son Sebastian Korda (* 2000) plays tennis and won the junior competition of the Australian Open in 2018 . All of his children compete under the US flag, where the family lives.
