Sebastian Korda (born July 5, 2000 in Bradenton , Florida ) is an American tennis player .

Personal

Sebastian Korda is the son of the Czech former Australian Open winner Petr Korda . His mother Regina Rajchrtová also played tennis under the Czech flag. His two sisters Jessica (* 1993) and Nelly (* 1998) are also successful athletes and play golf professionally . The family lives in Bradenton , Florida and is a US national.

Career

Sebastian Korda started playing tennis when he was 10 years old. In 2015 he played tournaments on the ITF Junior Tour for the first time. From 2017 he played there regularly with good results. At the beginning of 2018 at the Australian Open , he won his first major title by beating Taiwanese Tseng Chun-hsin in the final of the individual . After his triumph at the end of January, he was first in the junior world ranking for the first time.

Among the pros, Korda first played a handful of tournaments on the ITF Future Tour in 2016 , before being in the main draw of a challenger in Sarasota for the first time in 2017 with a wildcard , where he lost at the beginning. In October 2017 he was in the final of a future for the first time.

After his success at the Junior Grand Slam in Australia, the American played his first tournament on the ATP World Tour in New York thanks to a wildcard . There he was defeated by Frances Tiafoe in three sentences. Korda also got wild cards at the Challenger in Indian Wells and the qualification of the Masters in the same city and lost his opening match. So far, he has not yet won a match above the future category.
