Bradenton is a city and also the county seat of Manatee County in the US state of Florida with 49,546 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Bradenton is located at the mouth of the Manatee River in the Gulf of Mexico . The city borders Palmetto to the north and is about 60 km south of Tampa . After North Port and Sarasota , Bradenton is the third largest city in the Sarasota metropolitan area .
history
It was first mentioned when Hernando de Soto landed in 1539. The city was named after its first settler, Joseph Braden , a sugar planter who built a castle-like house here in 1854. 1919 was built by the Tampa Southern Railway , a subsidiary of the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad , a railway line from Tampa to Palmetto , which was extended to Bradenton in 1920. The current city was formed in 1943 when Florida law united the cities of Manatee and Bradentown.

Bradenton currently has 86 different churches from 23 different denominations. Among the churches belonging to a denomination, the Baptist congregation is most strongly represented with 23 churches. There are 6 churches that do not belong to any denomination (status: 2004).
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 49,546 inhabitants were distributed over 26,767 households. The population density was 1577.9 inh / km². 73.3% of the population identified themselves as whites, 15.9% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 1.1% as Asian Americans . 7.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.5% to several ethnic groups. 17.0% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 25.4% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 36.9% of all households. 56.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.23 people and the average family size was 2.92 people.
23.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.2% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 29.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 43 years. 46.6% of the population were male and 53.4% were female.
The median annual income was $ 41,409, with 17.1% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 87.50% of the population, 10.36% spoke Spanish and 2.14% had another mother tongue.
Culture and sights
The "Village of the Arts" district is an artists' quarter in which classic houses are being renovated and used as galleries, studios and restaurants.

There is a wide range of different city parks as well as several sporting facilities as well as playgrounds and opportunities for camping and barbecuing. There are also various marinas that are home to sailing and motor sports boats.

Bradenton is the administrative seat of Manatee County and the seat of the largest orange juice producer Tropicana Products , a subsidiary of the Pepsi group. Bradenton is crossed by Interstate 75 , US Highways 41 ( Tamiami Trail ) and 301, and Florida State Roads 64 and 684 . The nearest airport is Sarasota – Bradenton International Airport (around 10 km south).
With the remote bus system Thruway Motorcoach the railway company Amtrak , there is a connection of the city of Tampa . At Union Station there , you can get a connection to the Silver Star and Silver Meteor trains .
