West Samoset is a census-designated place (CDP) in Manatee County in the US state of Florida with 5583 inhabitants (as of 2010).

West Samoset borders directly on the city of Bradenton , is about 60 km south of Tampa and is crossed or affected by US Highways 41 ( Tamiami Trail ) and 301 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 5583 inhabitants were distributed over 2275 households. The population density was 1550.8 inh / km². 57.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 23.4% as African American , 0.4% as Indians and 0.1% as Asian Americans . 14.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.7% to several ethnic groups. 48.5% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 44.4% of all households and people aged 65 or over in 22.2% of all households. 67.5% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.12 people and the average family size was 3.65 people.

35.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 31.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 21.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 12.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 29 years. 49.8% of the population were male and 50.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 23,368, with 41.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 77.07% of the population and Spanish was spoken by 22.93%.
