Memphis is a census-designated place (CDP) in Manatee County in the US state of Florida with 7848 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Memphis borders the city of Palmetto in the south , is around 10 km north of Bradenton and around 50 km south of Tampa . US Highway 19 begins in town and continues north to Erie in Pennsylvania . In addition, the CDP is crossed by the Tamiami Trail ( US 41 ).
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 7,848 inhabitants were distributed over 3,412 households. The population density was 957.1 inh / km². 44.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 36.3% as African American , 0.6% as Indians and 0.3% as Asian Americans . 16.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.6% to several ethnic groups. 28.5% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 37.9% of all households and persons aged 65 and over were living in 32.1% of all households. 72.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.93 people and the average family size was 3.38 people.
31.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.8% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.0% were 40 to 59 years old, and 20.1% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 36 years. 49.0% of the population were male and 51.0% were female.
The median annual income was $ 40,383, with 25.1% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, 83.13% of the population spoke English as their first language and 16.87% spoke Spanish .
