His best results in Grand Slam tournaments were tournament victories at the French Open in 1991 and 1992 and at the Australian Open in 1992 and 1993. At the US Open and Wimbledon , he reached the finals. In doubles he was twice in the round of 16 at Wimbledon.

Courier completed 26 singles and one doubles game for the US Davis Cup team between 1991 and 1999 . His individual statistics were 17:10, his only doubles he won alongside Todd Martin in the quarter-finals against Belgium in 1998. His greatest successes with the team were the title wins in 1992 and 1995, but he gave both singles against Yevgeny in the 1995 final against Russia Exit Kafelnikov and Andrei Tschesnokov . Thanks to Pete Sampras' victories in singles and doubles (with Todd Martin) the title could be won. Courier represented the USA in singles and doubles at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. He lost in the third round to the later gold medal winner Marc Rosset , in doubles he failed together with Pete Sampras in the second round to Jordi Arrese and Emilio Sánchez .

Courier, whose trademark was the baseball cap he wore to every match, retired from professional sports in 2000. Since then he has worked as a commentator for various television channels such as NBC Sports and USA Network . In 2005 Jim Courier was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame .
