Todd Christopher Martin (born July 8, 1970 in Hinsdale , Illinois ) is a retired American tennis player .
Career
He became a professional tennis player in 1993 and won his first tennis tournament in Coral Springs in 1993. In 1994 he reached the final of the Australian Open and was defeated by Pete Sampras in three sets. In the same year he made it to the semifinals of Wimbledon and the US Open and won the titles in London's Queen’s Club and in Memphis.
With the US team , Todd Martin won the Davis Cup with a 3-2 win over Russia in 1995 . Also in 1995 he reached the final of the Grand Slam Cup in Munich , which he lost to Goran Ivanišević in three sets.
Martin played his second Grand Slam final at the US Open in 1999, but lost again, this time against Andre Agassi in five sets.
His highest world ranking position was fourth. On August 30, 2004 Todd Martin resigned from active tennis after he failed in the first round of the US Open to Fabrice Santoro 6: 4, 4: 6, 4: 6 and 5: 7.
