The Atlanta ATP Tournament (officially BB&T Atlanta Open , previously Atlanta Tennis Championships ) is an American tennis tournament held annually in the summer in Atlanta , Georgia . It was first held in July 2010; it replaced the ATP tournament in Indianapolis and, like this one, is played on a hard court. The competition is part of the ATP World Tour 250 and the US Open Series , a series of hard court tournaments in North America that are intended to prepare for the US Open . The venue is the Atlantic Stadium .

Between 1992 and 2001 an ATP tournament was held in Atlanta, the Verizon Tennis Challenge ; the tournament was played on clay court in contrast to the Atlanta Tennis Championships .

The record winner of the hard court tournament is John Isner , who was successful five times. In doubles, Matthew Ebden and the Bryan twins each won twice. When Atlanta was still being played on clay, Michael Chang was the record holder in singles and Richey Reneberg in doubles with two tournament wins each. Andy Roddick was the only player to win both events.
