The International Tennis Tournament Brasil Open is a year in Brazilian São Paulo material discharged ATP tournament . The first tournament was held in 2001 in Costa do Sauípe , and in the 2012 season the event moved to São Paulo. The game is played every year in February and until 2016 indoors on clay, a combination that has been unique on the ATP Tour so far; In 2016 and 2017, the tournament was played outdoors before the tournament was held indoors again in 2018. The tournament is part of the ATP World Tour 250 as well as the so-called Golden Swing , a series of clay court tournaments in Latin America that are held at the beginning of the season (in addition to São Paulo, Buenos Aires , Viña del Mar and Rio de Janeiro , and Acapulco until 2013 ). A tennis tournament, the Banespa Open , was held in São Paulo as early as the 1990s . It was the successor to the competition in Itaparica and was held in 1991-1993. The first two events were played on hard court, the last on clay court.

A German player has not yet been able to enter the winner's list. The last tournament winner from Brazil was Gustavo Kuerten in 2004. Kuerten also won in 2002 and, along with Nicolás Almagro , Pablo Cuevas and Rafael Nadal, is the only player who could win the tournament at least twice; Almagro was the sole record winner with three titles before Cuevas drew level in 2017 after winning three times in a row from 2015. In doubles, Bruno Soares holds the record with three titles.
