František Čermák (born November 14, 1976 in Valtice , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech tennis player and coach.
Career
The right-handed doubles specialist won 31 tournaments on the ATP Tour , the first 20 all on clay. He won most of the titles with his compatriot Leoš Friedl , with whom he formed a solid pairing from 2002 to 2007. From 2009 he was successful together with the Slovak Michal Mertiňák , with whom he won five tournaments in the 2009 season and another title in 2010 and 2012.
His greatest success at a Grand Slam tournament was the 2013 French Open in mixed alongside Lucie Hradecká . In the doubles competitions he reached at least the last sixteen in all four Grand Slam tournaments.
He achieved his best world rankings in October 2003 with position 201 in singles and in February 2010 with position 14 in doubles.
In 2016, Čermák took over the coaching role of his compatriot Petra Kvitová . The employment relationship was terminated after just five months. During this time Kvitová u. a. Bronze at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In February 2016 he also played his last game on one of the professional tours on the Challenger Tour .
Davis Cup
In 2005 (lost double against the German pairing Haas / Waske) and 2012, Čermák each had an assignment for the Czech Davis Cup team . In the 2012 season, the team qualified for the second time after 2009 for the Davis Cup final, which was held in Prague . Čermák was not in the squad in the final against Spain , which the Czech Republic won 3-2. In the first round match against Italy he lost his singles against Simone Bolelli in straight sets.
