Career

Chiudinelli, who lives in Füllinsdorf ( Basel-Landschaft ), started his career with his childhood friend Roger Federer at the TC Old Boys in Basel . Before he decided to play tennis, he played soccer with the juniors of FC Basel - Federer was with local rivals FC Concordia Basel . In 1997 he was selected by Swiss Tennis for Tennis Etudes in Biel . He has been on the ATP Tour since 2000 . In 2001 he switched to the Breakpoint Team in Halle (Westphalia) . In 2005 he could have climbed into the top 100 of the tennis world rankings for the first time , but then had to take a break of ten months due to several injuries. He made it into the top 100 on October 5, 2009. His greatest success in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round at the 2006 US Open , in which he passed Richard Gasquet after victories against Fernando Vicente and Feliciano López failed. In 2009 he also made it into the third round of the US Open, but lost to Nikolai Dawydenko in three sets. At the Davidoff Swiss Indoors Basel 2009 he reached the semi-finals and only failed there because of his compatriot and the former number 1 in the tennis world rankings Roger Federer in just two sets. On the Challenger Tour he was able to win two singles and one double title. He won his first and only World Tour title in Gstaad in 2009 when he won the doubles competition with Michael Lammer . In 2009 he was awarded the Comeback of the Year award by the ATP , due to his world ranking position, which he improved by over 700 places over the course of the year. At the beginning of the year he was still on position 779, but improved due to good performances, among other things thanks to the quarter-finals in Bangkok and the semi-finals at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, to position 56 at the end of the year. In October 2017 he ended his career at the Swiss Indoors Basel 2017 .

Davis Cup
