The Davidoff Swiss Indoors Basel 2009 was a tennis tournament that took place from November 2nd to 8th, 2009 in Basel . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2009 and was played indoors on a hard court. In the same week, the Valencia Open was played in Valencia , which, like the Swiss Indoors Basel, belonged to the ATP World Tour 500 category . The venue for the tournament was the St. Jakobshalle , which is located just behind the Basel city limits in Münchenstein .

After Roger Federer had won the tournament in the last three years, this time he had to admit defeat in the final to Novak Đoković 4-6, 6: 4, 2: 6, who won the tournament for the first time and his 15th title overall received. In doubles, Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles no longer competed to defend their title. In this year's final, the top seeded Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjić prevailed in two sets 6: 2, 6: 3 against the brothers Bob and Mike Bryan .

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 1,225,000 euros, the total financial liabilities were 1,755,000 euros.

The qualification took place on October 31st and November 1st, 2009 in the St. Jakobshalle . Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
