The Argentine Juan Martín del Potro was able to confidently defend his title from last year. In the final he met local hero Roger Federer again , whom he defeated in three sets. This year it was his fourth title and his 17th title in his career. Last year, the Canadian Daniel Nestor and the Serbian Nenad Zimonjić won the doubles title. While Zimonjić entered the Valencia Open 500 this year with a new partner, Nestor played alongside Vasek Pospisil at the Swiss Indoors this year . However, they were eliminated in two sets against Denis Istomin and Horacio Zeballos in the first round . Treat Huey and Dominic Inglot won this year's final against the Austrian duo Julian Knowle and Oliver Marach in three sets .
The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs.
The qualification for the Swiss Indoors Basel 2013 took place on October 19 and 20, 2013 in the St. Jakobshalle . Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
At the Swiss Indoors Basel 2013, the following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who entered the main field from qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round.
