Last year's winner David Ferrer was able to successfully defend his title. In the duel between the top two seeded, he defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber in two sets with 7: 6 5 and 6: 1. Ferrer was able to win in Auckland for the fourth time, even three times in a row. The Austrian duo Oliver Marach and Alexander Peya won the tournament in doubles last year. That year Colin Fleming and Bruno Soares won in straight sets against Johan Brunström and Frederik Nielsen . For the two of them it was the first joint title on the ATP Tour.
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs.
The qualification for the Heineken Open 2013 took place from 5th to 7th January 2013. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
At the Heineken Open 2013, the following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who entered the main field from qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. The amounts for the double competition were per player.
