In 2005 Martin Kližan won the U16 European Championships in singles and doubles (together with Andrej Martin ). A year later he triumphed as a junior at the 2006 French Open . That win secured him a wild card to qualify for the 2007 French Open . There, as number 729 in the world, he was surprisingly able to defeat Israeli Noam Okun (then number 180 in the ATP rankings ) in the first qualifying round and was eliminated in the second round against Juan Pablo Brzezicki in just three sets.
