The ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament 2016 was a tennis tournament that took place in Rotterdam from February 8th to 14th . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2016 and was played indoors on a hard court. In the same week the Memphis Open Presented by ServiceMaster was played in Memphis and the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires . Both belonged to the ATP World Tour 250 category , while the tournament in Rotterdam was part of the higher endowed ATP World Tour 500 category .

Stan Wawrinka was the defending champion in the singles, who did not start again this year. In the final, Martin Kližan from Slovakia prevailed 6: 7 1 , 6: 3, 6: 1 against Gaël Monfils , who was seeded five times , after he had previously defended five match points against Roberto Bautista Agut in the quarter-finals and three match points in the semi-finals against Nicolas Mahut . This means that Kližan won his fourth title in his fourth final and his first in a tournament in the ATP 500 category. In doubles, Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau won the title last year. This year they were eliminated in the semifinals against Philipp Petzschner and Alexander Peya. These in turn lost in the final to the pairing of Nicolas Mahut and Vasek Pospisil with 6: 7 2 , 4: 6. Petzschner / Peya lost their second final after the tournament in Doha . Mahut and Pospisil only played together for the second time and had to fend off a match point on the way to the title in the semi-finals.

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 1,597,155 euros; the total financial liabilities were 1,722,820 euros.
