The Generali Open 2016 was a tennis tournament that took place from July 18 to 23, 2016 in Kitzbühel . It was part of the ATP World Tour 2016 and was played outdoors on a clay court. In the same week were in Gstaad , the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad , in Umag the Konzum Croatia Open Umag and in DC Washington, the Citi Open played. The latter belonged to the ATP World Tour 500 category , while the other three tournaments belonged to the lower endowed ATP World Tour 250 category .

The defending champion was Philipp Kohlschreiber in singles and Nicolás Almagro and Carlos Berlocq in doubles .

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players each received a bye into the second round. The total prize money was 463,520 euros; the total financial liabilities were 520,070 euros.

The qualification took place on July 16 and 17, 2016. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
