Life

Khachanov was born in Moscow to Armenian parents. He started tennis at the age of three and had wanted to pursue a professional career since he was 12. Khachanov's first tennis coach was the Croatian Vedran Martić, with whom he worked since his youth. Furthermore, the ex-professional Galo Blanco was officially his trainer from 2015 to 2017 , but Khachanov worked with Galo for a total of four years.

Career

Khachanov entered professional tennis in September 2013 and immediately played on the ATP World Tour . For the St. Petersburg Open he received a wild card from the tournament management and surprised in the first round by beating the much better placed Romanian Victor Hănescu in two sets. In the last sixteen he was eliminated from Lukáš Rosol in straight sets. About a month later he received another wildcard for the Kremlin Cup in Moscow, where he defeated the Spaniard Albert Ramos in the first round . The biggest surprise came in the round of 16, where he faced the Serbian Janko Tipsarević, who was seeded in third place, and won the game in straight sets. In the quarterfinals against Ivo Karlović he finally had no chance. He made his Davis Cup debut for the Russian Davis Cup team just a week later in the playoff games against South Africa , where he immediately won his first game.
