2004–2008: First experiences as a junior and in future tournaments
Albert Ramos competed in international junior tournaments in 2005 and 2006. He was able to win several titles there and achieved a top 10 placement in the junior world rankings. In 2004 he was also able to collect first points for the men's world rankings at satellite and future tournaments . After reaching his first future final in June 2006, he was listed in the top 1000 for the first time. In 2008 he finally won his first future title.
2009–2010: Successes on the Challenger Tour and ATP debut
At the beginning of 2009, three more future titles followed for Albert Ramos. He was also able to gain a foothold on the ATP Challenger Tour this year and reached two Challenger Finals in September 2009. However, he lost both in Seville to Pere Riba and in Palermo to Adrian Ungur . Nevertheless, he improved in the world rankings by almost 300 places to 168th place this year. In April 2010 Albert Ramos was able to qualify for an ATP tournament for the first time in his hometown of Barcelona . After a first round win over Michael Russell , he met the top 20 player Fernando González in the second round , whom he defeated in three sets. In the last sixteen, however, it was against Ernests Gulbis terminus. In the further course of the season Ramos made it into the main field at the ATP tournaments in Hamburg , Bucharest and Valencia , but he was eliminated in the first round. In Grand Slam tournaments, he still could not qualify this year. However, he was able to win his first Challenger title in San Sebastián in August 2010 , when he first defeated Rubén Ramírez Hidalgo, who was placed 2nd in the semifinals, and then Benoît Paire in the final. A month later, like last year, he played his way to the final in Seville and met Pere Riba there again. This time Ramos was able to prevail in three sets and win his second title of the season. As a result, he improved in the world rankings to his best placing 109 to date.
2011: Grand Slam debut and entry into the Top 100
In January 2011, Albert Ramos was directly qualified for an ATP tournament for the first time due to his world ranking position in Santiago . A first round win over Leonardo Mayer was followed by a defeat against the later semi-finalist Fabio Fognini . Also at the ATP tournament in Buenos Aires two weeks later he reached the second round as a qualifier when he first defeated João Souza before being eliminated by Tommy Robredo . In April 2011 further ATP first round victories over Brian Dabul and Rubén Ramírez Hidalgo followed at the tournaments in Houston and Barcelona . In May 2011 Albert Ramos was able to qualify for a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the French Open . In the first main round he prevailed in a duel between two qualifiers in five sets against the 19-year-old Javier Martí , but then retired in the second round against the later quarter-finalist Robin Söderling, who was fifth . In June 2011 Ramos won his first Challenger title of the year against Yevgeny Korolev in Milan and then moved into the top 100 of the world rankings for the first time. Two weeks later he reached another Challenger final in Turin , which he lost to Carlos Berlocq . At the ATP tournament in Hamburg in July 2011, Albert Ramos won the first round as a qualifier against Adrian Mannarino , but was then eliminated against the top seeded Gaël Monfils . A week later, Ramos was in Umag for the first time in the quarter-finals of an ATP tournament after beating the top 50 player Ivan Dodig . There, however, he was defeated by the later tournament winner Oleksandr Dolhopolow , who was in second position . In August 2011 Albert Ramos reached the final at the Challenger tournament in San Sebastián, as in the previous year, and was able to defend his title there with a smooth victory over Pere Riba . On his US Open debut, Ramos lost in five sets against Philipp Petzschner . At the last clay court tournament of the season in Bucharest , Ramos reached an ATP quarter-finals for the second time, but was eliminated there against the eventual winner Florian Mayer . In the further course of the year he was able to reach the second round of an ATP tournament twice in Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai and finally ended his best season to date in 66th place in the world rankings.
2012: First ATP final
The year 2012 began for Albert Ramos at the ATP tournament in Doha , where he was eliminated in the quarterfinals against the eventual tournament winner Jo-Wilfried Tsonga . After a first round defeat in his Australian Open debut against the later quarter-finalist Tomáš Berdych , who was placed 7th , Ramos took part in several South American ATP clay court tournaments in February 2012. He reached an ATP semifinals for the first time in São Paulo after defeating Fernando Verdasco , who was placed in 3rd position , in which he was defeated by the eventual tournament winner Nicolás Almagro . In Buenos Aires and Acapulco he failed each in the round of 16, but was able to defeat each seeded player with Juan Ignacio Chela and Juan Mónaco . Also at the following hard court Masters tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami , Ramos threw Richard Gasquet and Feliciano López each seeded top 20 player out of the competition and thus reached the third round in both tournaments. In April 2012, Albert Ramos was in Casablanca for the first time in his career in an ATP final, but lost there in two sets to the defending champion Pablo Andújar .
In the first years of his career, Ramos competed under his full name Albert Ramos-Viñolas , since March 2011 he has only been listed as Albert Ramos at the ATP . Since 2016 it has been used again under its full name.
