life and career

Until 2010: First experiences in future tournaments and ATP debut

At the beginning of his career, Javier Martí only played a few junior tournaments, but rather took part in ITF Future Tour tournaments at the age of fifteen . In September 2008 he was able to record his first match win and thus collect the first world ranking points. In doubles he won the first two titles alongside his coach Óscar Burrieza in 2009 , in singles it took until March 2010 until he reached a final in Croatia for the first time, which he lost. In May 2010 he finally won his first individual title in Bulgaria and also reached another final. In the further course of the year he reached four more future finals, of which he won two. In November 2010 Javier Martí received a wildcard for the ATP tournament in Valencia . On his ATP debut, however, he had no chance against the then world number eleventh Nikolai Dawydenko . Martí won five doubles titles this year, all with Burrieza.

2011: Grand Slam debut

After winning another future title in January 2011, Javier Martí was able to record a match win at a Challenger tournament in Pereira for the first time in April 2011 , where he immediately reached the semi-finals. After participating in the quarter-finals at the Challenger tournament in Blumenau , Martí went to qualify at the French Open in May 2011 . There he was able to qualify surprisingly for the main draw, among other things by defeating the same age Ryan Harrison . In his Grand Slam debut, he met Albert Ramos , who also started as a qualifier, in the first main round , to whom he was defeated in five sets. 2012: First Challenger Final

Javier Martí's first success in 2012 was at the ATP tournament in São Paulo in February , where he started with a wildcard and defeated the top 100 player Frederico Gil . In the second round he met Fernando Verdasco , who was third, against whom he won one set, but in the end lost in three sets. At the following tournament in Buenos Aires Martí succeeded in qualifying, followed by a first round defeat against Benoît Paire . In April 2012, Javier Martí was in Mersin for the first time in the final of a Challenger tournament. There he lost to João Sousa in a close match of three .
