Defending champion in the singles was David Ferrer , who was eliminated in the semi-finals. The tournament was won by last year's finalist Marcel Granollers , who defeated the Argentine Juan Mónaco in the final. This was already his second title of the season and the first tournament victory on hard court. Andy and Jamie Murray won the doubles title last year , but they did not defend their title. This year's doubles competition was won by world number one Bob and Mike Bryan , who prevailed against Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer in the final . The win in Valencia was the twins' eighth title of the season and, after the triumph in Vienna a week earlier, the second indoor title.
The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The total prize money was 1,357,000 euros, the total financial liabilities were 2,019,000 euros.
The qualification took place from October 28th to 29th, 2011. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.

Players who moved into the main draw via qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round.
