Defending champion in the singles was Juan Carlos Ferrero , who was eliminated in the semi-finals this time. In this year's final, the local hero Marin Čilić was defeated by the Ukrainian Oleksandr Dolhopolow . After his double win in Indian Wells in the same year, the triumph in Umag was Dolgopolov's first individual title on the ATP Tour.
