Robin Haase (born April 6, 1987 in The Hague ) is a Dutch tennis player .

Career

Robin Haase is the son of a German and a Dutch woman. He was considered a hopeful talent during his junior years; on March 14, 2005 he reached 3rd place in the junior ranking. In the junior division, he lost the 2005 Wimbledon final against Jérémy Chardy .

In July 2007, Haase reached his first semi-final in an ATP tournament. At the Dutch Open in Amersfoort he lost 4: 6, 4: 6 against Werner Eschauer . In doubles he even made it into the final with Rogier Wassen , but the two had to admit defeat to Juan Pablo Brzezicki and Juan Pablo Guzmán . In August of the same year, Haase defeated a top 10 player for the first time. At the Canada Masters he defeated Tomáš Berdych 6: 4, 7: 5. At the US Open he joined Mario Ančić as a lucky loser, but lost in the first round 2: 6, 1: 6, 3: 6 against the eventual finalist Novak Đoković .

At the Chennai Open in 2008, Haase defeated Marcos Baghdatis, who was second, in the first round . In the same year, Haase did not get past the quarterfinals in tournaments of the ATP World Tour . In 2009 he was unable to compete in any tournament due to a knee injury. Therefore he fell out of the top 100 in the ATP world rankings . At the Australian Open 2010 Haase had no chance in the first round; he was defeated by Tomáš Berdych, who was seeded at 21, with 0: 6, 3: 6, 3: 6.

In 2011 in Monte Carlo he lost in round two after winning a set against Jürgen Melzer . In Nice he reached the quarter-finals, but had to give up there in the second set. At the French Open , he clearly lost his second round match against Mardy Fish . At Wimbledon he met Mardy Fish again in the third round; Haase had to give up in the fourth set. In August he was able to celebrate his first title in Kitzbühel , which he successfully defended in 2012.

Until his arrest in March 2016 he was trained by Mark de Jong, and since May by Kristie Boogert .

Robin Haase has played for the Dutch Davis Cup team since 2006 ; he won 26 of his 40 games so far.
