Thiemo Carsten Jannick de Bakker (born September 19, 1988 in The Hague ) is a Dutch tennis player .

life and career

After de Bakker won the Junior Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon in 2006, he received a wildcard for his first ATP tournament in Amersfoort . There he caused a surprise when he beat Julien Benneteau (world number 53) in the first round. In the second round he was eliminated against Benneteau's compatriot Marc Gicquel . Then de Bakker played futures tournaments again and was able to win his first tournaments in this class by the end of the year.

In 2007, de Bakker played in the men's mainly in the second-rate Challengers and the third-rate futures. At Wimbledon he took part in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time and lost to Wayne Arthurs in 5 sets.

The next year he was nominated for the first time for the Dutch Davis Cup team and was able to celebrate two wins in his debut in the encounter against Macedonia.

In 2009 de Bakker only played Challengers and ATP tournaments and was able to achieve respectable successes there. Among other things, he won against Rainer Schüttler in Munich or against Gaël Monfils in the Davis Cup. He finished the year for the first time among the top 100 tennis players in the world (96th place). He is the first Dutch player since Raemon Sluiter in 2004 to do so.

In 2010 de Bakker reached the semi-finals in New Haven and Barcelona . At the Grand Slam tournaments in Paris , Wimbledon and the US Open , he was eliminated in the third round. He reached his best world ranking position in July 2010 with place 40.

In 2013, he made it to the semi-finals at the clay court tournament in Båstad, Sweden . On his way there he switched off the current number six in the world rankings with Tomáš Berdych before losing to the eventual tournament winner Carlos Berlocq .

In the German tennis Bundesliga , de Bakker played for TV Reutlingen in the 2nd Bundesliga in 2012 , and in 2013 for a season in the 1st league for the promoted Bremerhaven TV 1905 . After Reutlingen's promotion to the first division, he returned to Reutlingen in 2014 , where he also played in the second division in 2015 .
