The Bremerhaven Tennis Club 05 , or BTV05 for short , is a pure tennis club in Bremerhaven . The men's team in the tennis Bundesliga and the other teams in the club play their home games on ten outdoor and four indoor courts .

history

The Bremerhaven TV05 was founded in 1905 by senior teacher Dr. Schübeler founded as Geestemünder tennis club on April 20th in the Hotel Hannover. In 1925 the Geestemünder Waldverein leased an area to the tennis club on which six tennis courts were built. After the plant was expanded in 1926, the number of members rose to 526 by 1929.

After its re-establishment in 1946, the club was renamed the Bremerhaven Tennis Club from 1905 eV in 1947 . After the Geestemünder Waldverein was dissolved (1950), which had been the lessor until then, ownership passed to the city of Bremerhaven. After the club house was rebuilt (1955), the club had 403 members again in 1967.

In 1970 the first tennis hall with two courts was built, and in 1976 another hall with two courts was added directly to the first. In 1982 the association had 600 members.

Sporting successes

In 1993 the first men's team rose to the Regionalliga Nord. In the same year the BTV-Pool was founded as a sponsor pool, which in 1999 was converted into the BTV-Pool eV association . In 2000, the first men's team played in the newly established 2nd tennis Bundesliga . In 2008 he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga for the first time . After relegation in 2009, the sea lions played in the 2nd division for three years before they returned to the top German division through renewed promotion in 2013. From a sporting point of view, relegation was missed in 2013 by a 5-1 home defeat in the last game, a 3-3 draw would have been enough to stay. The top players Thiemo de Bakker and Federico Delbonis contributed to the team's success with two individual victories each. The Argentine Delbonis surprised at this time, as 114th in the world rankings at the time, by reaching the finals at the ATP tournament in Hamburg 2013 . In the semifinals he was able to defeat Roger Federer . With Wacker Burghausen's financial withdrawal , Bremerhaven played again in the first division in 2014 . In the third season of the club in the First Bundesliga, there was only one win of the season. On the penultimate match day Bremerhaven lost against the previous bottom of the table TV Reutlingen away with 2: 4, despite the use of three of their best players. Paolo Lorenzi , Diego Schwartzman and Damir Džumhur could not prevent relegation.
