Victor Hănescu (born July 21, 1981 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian tennis player .

Career

Hănescu started playing tennis at the age of seven. 2000 was his first year as a professional. Since 2001 he has played for the Romanian Davis Cup team .

The greatest success of his career Hănescu celebrated at the French Open , when he moved into the quarter-finals after a five-set win over David Nalbandian . There he was subject to world number one Roger Federer .

His best position in the world rankings to date he reached on July 6th, 2009 with place 26th. In 2006 he could not defend any of the good results and fell far behind in the world rankings. He is struggling with injuries and was only able to take part in a few tournaments where he was eliminated early. In 2008 he won the final in Gstaad , his only tournament victory at an ATP World Tour tournament .

In doubles he won two ATP tournaments ( Kitzbühel and Acapulco ).
