Lucas Arnold Ker (born October 12, 1974 in Buenos Aires ) is a retired Argentine tennis player .
Career
The doubles specialist began his professional career on the ATP World Tour in 1996 and was able to celebrate 15 tournament victories in doubles - all on clay. The Davis Cup player failed 18 more times in the final of a doubles competition. In addition, he was successful on the ATP Challenger Tour 21 times , including two singles. He reached his highest individual placement in the tennis world rankings with number 77 in July 1998. In the same year he also took part in all Grand Slam tournaments and achieved his best result with the third round of the 1998 US Open . In doubles he was ranked 21st in March 2004. At Grand Slams he was most successful in 1997 when he made it to the semi-finals of Roland Garros , where he also reached the quarter-finals twice (2001 and 2003). Lucas Arnold Ker was the first opponent in Roger Federer's professional career . In July 1998 in Gstaad in the first round, Ker won the game 6: 4 and 6: 4 against him.
In August 2006 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. After chemotherapy and the removal of a testicle, he recovered completely and played on the tour again from 2008.
After playing regularly tournaments on the World Tour in 2013, he has only occasionally played Challenger tournaments in his native city of Buenos Aires and in Montevideo since then .
Ker played from 1997 to 2009 in 14 matches for the Argentine Davis Cup team , where he can show a record of 13: 4.
