Fernando Meligeni (born April 12, 1971 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is a former Brazilian tennis player .

The clay court specialist was able to win three single ATP tournaments in his career and made it to the semi-finals of the 1999 French Open . His best world ranking position was 25th place. In doubles he celebrated successes mainly with his compatriot Gustavo Kuerten . With him he won five of a total of seven tournaments and reached the quarterfinals of the French Open in 1998.

Career

Meligeni began his ATP career in August 1989 by participating in a Challenger tournament in Sao Paulo. He failed in the first round, but came to another Challenger tournament in 1989 in the third round. His first appearance on the ATP tour was in February 1991 in Guarujá ( Brazil ). In 1992 he made his debut at the US Open and the following year he was able to draw attention to himself with three tournament victories on the Challenger Tour, the round of 16 at the French Open and a year-end position within the Top 100. In 1995 he celebrated his first tournament victory in singles on the ATP tour in Båstad . His first win in doubles followed in 1996 in Santiago de Chile . At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, he experienced a bitter disappointment when he lost in the game for the bronze medal to the Indian leader Paes . He reached his career high point in 1997 with four tournament wins including winning the International Series Gold tournament in Stuttgart alongside Gustavo Kuerten. In 1999 he reached the top of his career in singles with his semi-finals at the French Open and his 25th place in the world rankings in October. In 2003 he was able to celebrate another success by winning the gold medal at the Pan American Games in the Dominican Republic .
