ATP Tour 2000

The course of the professional men's tennis season 2000 ( ATP Tour ) is shown in the following tables . First of all, all tournaments are listed according to their start with the respective single and double winners, then the world rankings are shown at the end of the season. In the further part there is a detailed list of all tournament winners according to the number of their successes as well as an extensive nation ranking that includes single and double successes.

Tournaments

71 tournaments were played in 2000, including the World Team Cup and the singles and doubles world championships as part of the Tennis Masters Cup . In addition to the four Grand Slam tournaments, there were nine master tournaments, which were previously marketed as ATP Super 9 , eleven tournaments of the International Series Gold and 44 tournaments of the International Series . The tour also included the tennis tournament at the Summer Olympics in Sydney , making Sydney the venue for two tournaments this season. However, in January the Adidas International was still held in the old White City Stadium , while the summer games were played on the tennis facility in the new Sydney Olympic Park .

Tournament changes to the preseason

Compared to the previous year, the Heineken Open Singapore in the International Series Gold was replaced by the Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Pegaso tournament held in Mexico City . In the International Series, the tournaments in Viña del Mar and Bogotá were reintroduced after a year break . The season finale with the two Tennis Masters Cup tournaments took place for the only time so far for the singles in Lisbon and for the doubles in Bengaluru .

Introduction of the ATP Race

In addition, an additional evaluation system was introduced with the ATP Race , which regulated participation in the Tennis Masters Cup. The first eight players or the first eight doubles of this new ranking were qualified for the year-end tournament. With the doubles it should be noted that the ATP Race did not represent individual statistics, but rather awarded the points after pairings. Another difference to the classic world rankings was that only points that were achieved in this season were included in the statistics, i.e. the number of points was deleted after the end of the season.

The exact allocation of points can be found in the corresponding article , the status at the end of the season is shown below.

Successful players

Most of the tournament victories in the individual was Marat Safin , who won a total of seven tournaments, including the US Open , and thus celebrated his breakthrough in the tennis elite. At the end of the year, however, Gustavo Kuerten was top of the ATP world rankings , who won the French Open and the Tennis Masters Cup.

In doubles it was the year of the Australian doubles Woodbridge / Woodforde , which entered the list of winners in eight tournaments, u. a. at the French Open and Wimbledon . They consequently ended the year in first and second place in the individual double ATP world rankings. The winner of the ATP Tour World Championship Doubles at the end of the season, however, was the pairing Johnson / Norval .
