Gold Flake Open 2000

The Gold Flake Open 2000 was the 5th edition of the hard court tennis tournament in Chennai . The tournament was part of the male ATP series as the International Series tournament . It took place together with the AAPT Championships in Adelaide and the Qatar Mobil Open in Doha in the first match week of the 2000 season from January 3 to 10, 2000. The venue was the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu Tennis Stadium (SDAT Tennis Stadium for short). The prize money was $ 975,000 for both single and double tournaments. In singles, 32 players competed against each other, in doubles there were 16 pairings.

Defending champion of the individual competition was Byron Black , who failed with five seeded in the first round this year. Instead, the French Jérôme Golmard, seeded four, won the second title of his career. In the final he defeated the German Markus Hantschk in three sets.

Wild Card owners Julien Boutter and Christophe Rochus won the doubles , taking over from local doubles Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes . They broke the three-year winning streak of the two Indians. It was the first double success on the ATP tour for both Boutter and Rochus.
