The tournament was part of the male ATP series as the International Series tournament . It took place May 22-28, 2000 parallel to the World Team Cup in Düsseldorf . Prize money for both singles and doubles was $ 400,000. In singles, 32 players competed against each other, in doubles there were 16 pairings.

The defending champion in the singles was the Chilean Marcelo Ríos , who won the tournament three times in the last four editions. It was Pavel's first and only win of the 2000 season and the second of his career.

The top seeded Mahesh Bhupathi from India and Andrew Kratzmann from Australia won in doubles, succeeding last year's winners Andrei Olchowski and Andrew Florent , who both did not defend their titles. For Bhupathi it was the first title of the season and the 16th of the career. With this title, Kratzmann celebrated the first and only title in 2000 and thus also the last of his career.
