The Gelsor Open Romania 2000 was the 8th edition of the tennis clay court tournament in Bucharest . The tournament was part of the ATP series as the International Series tournament . It took place together with the President's Cup in Tashkent from September 11th to 17th, 2000. The prize pool for both singles and doubles was $ 350,000. In singles, 32 players competed against each other, in doubles there were 16 pairings.

The defending champion in the singles was the Spaniard Alberto Martín , who placed sixth this year in the semi-finals and was defeated by the future finalist Markus Hatschk from Germany. This, in turn, had a disadvantage in the final against Martín's unset compatriot Juan Balcells . This was Balcell's only tournament success on the ATP tour in his career.

Martín won the doubles tournament alongside his partner Eyal Ran from Israel. They succeeded the two Argentinians Lucas Arnold Ker and Mariano Hood , who failed in second place this year in the 2nd round. For Martín it was the first double success of his career, for Ran the only title so far.
