The Mercedes Cup 2000 was the 23rd edition of the tennis clay court tournament in Stuttgart . The tournament was part of the male ATP series as the International Series Gold tournament . It took place from July 17 to July 23, 2000 in the Weissenhof in Stuttgart , making it the first of two professional tournaments in Stuttgart in the 2000 season before the Eurocard Open . The prize money was $ 900,000 for both single and double tournaments. 48 players competed against each other in singles and 24 pairings in doubles.

The defending champion of the individual competition was the Swede Magnus Norman , who set first this year failed in the 2nd round against the German wildcard owner Daniel Elsner . It was won by the Argentine Franco Squillari , who celebrated his second title of the season and his third in his career. He won all titles at German tournaments.

In doubles, the first-placed Czech pairing Jiří Novák and David Rikl won , succeeding Daniel Orsanic and Jaime Oncins . The defending champions were seeded at four this year and were eliminated in the first round. For the two Czechs it was the 4th title of the season, and it was their 10th title together. Neither of the previous year's winners did not defend their title.
