Heineken Open Shanghai 2000 / Men

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heineken Open Shanghai 2000 was the 5th edition of the tennis hard court tournament in Shanghai . The competition was part of the ATP series as a tournament of the International Series . It took place together with the Adidas Open de Toulouse from October 16-22, 2000. The prize pool for both the singles and doubles tournaments was $ 350,000. In singles, 32 players competed against each other, in doubles there were 16 pairings.

The successful defending champion in the singles was the Swede Magnus Norman , who won the final this year against the Dutchman Sjeng Schalken . This was the Swede's fifth win of the season and the 12th title of his career.

Schalken had more success after his defeat in the single final in doubles at the side of his compatriot Paul Haarhuis . The unseeded Dutch defeated the Czech doubles around Petr Pála and Pavel Vízner in three sets. You succeeded Daniel Nestor and Sébastien Lareau from Canada, who both did not run this year. For Haarhuis it was the first title this year and already the 49th double title of his career, for Schalken after his single success in Tokyo a few weeks earlier it was also the first double success of the year and the third of his career. In this constellation, Haarhuis and Schalken were able to book a title for themselves last year.
