Taylor Phillip Dent (born April 24, 1981 in Newport Beach , California ) is a retired American tennis player .
Career
Taylor Dent began his professional career in 1998. After some successes at smaller tournaments, he won his first title on the ATP Tour on July 7, 2002 in Newport . His most successful year was 2003, in which he won three more titles. In 2004 he reached the final in Tokyo , but lost to Jiří Novák 7: 5, 1: 6, 3: 6. He took two more finals in 2005 in Indianapolis and Adelaide . In 2004 he reached the finals of Beijing together with Alex Bogomolov junior in the doubles competition .
For the US Davis Cup team , he played in the 2003 season in the encounter against Croatia in a single game, which he lost to Mario Ančić with 1: 2.
In 2010 Dent set new tournament records at both the French Open and Wimbledon with service speeds of 240 km / h and 238 km / h, respectively. At the end of the 2010 season he ended his professional career.
Private life
Taylor Dent is the son of 1974 Australian Open finalist Phil Dent . On December 8, 2006, he married tennis player Jennifer Hopkins .
