George Edward Bastl (born April 1, 1975 in Ollon , Canton of Vaud ) is a former Swiss tennis player . He is the brother of ice hockey player Mark Bastl .

Career

George Bastl grew up in Switzerland. In 1994 he went back to the United States to study at the University of South Florida ; In 1995 he moved to the University of Southern California to focus on tennis.

From 1998 he was a professional on the ATP Tour . He reached his highest ATP ranking on May 1, 2000 with rank 71. The greatest success of his career is his five-set win at Wimbledon against Pete Sampras . He was also a member of the Swiss Davis Cup team .
