history
After its opening in September 1997, the arena served as the home of the ice hockey franchise Utah Grizzlies , which played in the International and later in the American Hockey League between 1997 and 2005 . After the team was dissolved and moved to Cleveland , Ohio , the former Lexington Men O'War moved to West Valley and have since continued to play under the name Utah Grizzlies in the ECHL . In addition, the E Center was the home of the Utah Freezz from the World Indoor Soccer League between 1999 and 2001 and the home of the Utah Warriors from the National Indoor Football League from 2003 to 2004 .
In 2002 the stadium was the venue for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , during which the Olympic ice hockey tournament was played in the arena. In addition, the E Center is one of the most important event and concert halls in the area.
In June 2010, the Maverik group of companies took over the naming rights to the arena.
