National Indoor Football League
The National Indoor Football League (NIFL) was an indoor American football league founded in 2001 with 22 teams, all of which were in the United States . The NIFL specifically selected the markets that are not covered by the teams of the Arena Football League or its lower division, the af2, as the NIFL was a semi-professional league that wanted to avoid competition. It was dissolved in 2007 after many teams moved to other leagues or were dissolved in the 2005 and 2006 seasons. The headquarters were in Lafayette , Louisiana.
Season schedule and playoffs
The NIFL season ran from the beginning of March to the end of July, a little offset from the AFL and completely outside the NFL season . Each team played 14 games: two against each division competitor and another team from the conference, one game against each team from a different division in their own conference and one game against two teams from the other conference. The eight best teams from each conference contested the playoffs in a knockout system, the winners of each conference competed against each other in the indoor bowl.
Indoor bowl
The final of the NIFL was called the Indoor Bowl and was held annually at the end of the season.
