The Sioux Falls Storm are an arena football team from Sioux Falls, South Dakota that currently plays in the Indoor Football League (IFL). The Storm plays their home games at Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.
history
The Sioux Falls Storm was founded in 1999 as Sioux Falls Cobras, but changed the name to Storm after only one season.
The Storm are one of the most successful indoor football franchises in history. In total, they won ten titles in two different leagues. The Storm have only missed the playoffs twice since their inception.
2000 season (Indoor Football League)
Sioux Falls started the 2000 season in the Indoor Football League and finished it in 4th place in the Northern Division and missed the playoffs.
2001-2004 season (National Indoor Football League)
The Indoor Football League disbanded for the 2001 season, so the Storm moved to the National Indoor Football League (NIFL). In the four seasons they reached the playoffs twice. In 2004 it even reached the Indoor Bowl final, but lost it with 38:59 against the Lexington Horsemen.
2005-2008 season (United Indoor Football)
For the 2005 season, the Storm switched to the newly founded United Indoor Football (UIF). In the four years the league has been operating, the Storm secured all four United Bowls , the UIF finals.
Season since 2009 (Indoor Football League)
In 2009 the UIF merged with the Intense Football League and together they formed the Indoor Football League (IFL).
While the Storms missed the playoffs in 2009, the second and so far the last time in franchise history, they moved into the UnitedBowl, the IFL final, in 2010. There they lost, however, with 43:34 against the Billings Outlaws . It was the second consecutive IFL title for the Outlaws.
In 2011 the Outlaws withdrew due to financial problems, so that the Storm started a 6-year title march. Only in the United Bowl 2017 did they lose 41:50 against the Arizona Ratters.
Stadion
The Storm have been playing in the Denny Sanford Premier Center, which can accommodate around 12,000 spectators, since 2015.
