history

2000–2001 season (Indoor Football League)

The Outlaws were founded as Billings Thunderbolts in 2000 and started a season in the Indoor Football League. For the first home game, 6,076 spectators saw a 46:35 victory over the Casper Cavalry .

When the league kicked off at the end of the 2000 season, they joined the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) and changed their name to Billings Outlaws.

2001-2004 season (National Indoor Football League)

In the first four years, the outlaws reached the playoffs twice, once even into the conference semifinals.

2005 season (National Indoor Football League)

For the 2005 season, the league announced that the Osceola Outlaws will start for the 2005 NIFL season. This led to a dispute over naming rights, as both clubs insisted on the name Outlaws.

The league decided to withdraw the name from both teams. The group that owned the Billings Outlaws, Montana Professional Sports LLC, sold the Outlaws name to businessman Duane Anderson, who changed the team to Mavericks.

2006 season (National Indoor Football League)

For the season, Billings was allowed to take their original name Outlaws again, so Anderson sold the naming rights back to Montana Professional Sports LLC.

The season was also successful in terms of sport. In the end, they secured the NIFL title in front of almost 8,000 spectators with 59:44 against the Fayetteville Guard .

After the season, the club announced that the Outlaws will move to United Indoor Football (UIF) for the new season .

2007-2008 season (United Indoor Football)

In the first year they made it back into the playoffs, but lost the conference final against the Sioux Falls Storm and eliminated.

In 2008 the Outlaws failed again against the Storm, when they led in the Conference semifinals up to 5 seconds before the end and lost the game 46:44 with the very last kick over 45 yards.

Since the UIF merged with the Intense Football League (IFL), the Outlaws played in the newly established Indoor Football League (IFL).

2009-2010 season (Indoor Football League)

In their last two years, the Outlaws were each able to win the title in the IFL. It was titles two and three in her story.

At the end of the 2010 season, the Outlaws broke up due to financial problems. The immense damage to the arena caused by a tornado was also partly responsible for this.

Stadion

In their history, the Outlaws only played in the Rimrock Auto Arena . After the tornado so damaged the arena in 2010, it was renovated in 2011 for $ 27 million dollars.
