The Rimrock Auto Arena (full name: Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark ) is a multi-purpose hall in the US city of Billings the Yellowstone County in the state of Montana .

The arena was opened in 1975 under the name Yellowstone METRA . METRA is an acronym for M ontana's E ntertainment, T rade and R ecreation A rena. The exhibition grounds around the hall were later renamed MetraPark . The event hall is used by local sports teams as well as for concerts, family and ice shows, motorsport events, musicals , rodeos , trade fairs and other events.

In the arena z. B. NBA season preparation games take place. So took place on October 8, 2008, the very first game of the new team of Oklahoma City Thunder against the Minnesota Timberwolves . The Timberwolves defeated the newbies 88:82. Various wrestling leagues such as WWE , WCW or UWF have already held events in the sports arena.

From 2000 to 2010, the Billings Outlaws IFL team was based in the arena. The ice hockey team of the Billings Bulls ( NorPac ) competed in the hall from 1993 to 2006. Other teams in the history of the arena were the basketball team Billings Rims ( AAPBL ), the Billings Rimrockers of the IBA basketball league and the ice hockey team of the Billings Bighorns from the ( WHL ). Furthermore, the Billings Thunderbolts of the Indoor Football League (IFL) and the basketball team of the Billings Volcanoes from the CBA competed in the hall.

On February 21, 2007, the Rimrock Auto Group announced that the multi-purpose arena will be named Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark from July 1, 2007 . The naming rights contract runs for ten years for one million US dollars .

On June 20, 2010, a tornado hit Billings and the Rimrock Auto Arena and caused great damage to the hall. Much of the roof was covered. In December 2010, the repair and renovation work is on schedule. The first construction project since it opened cost about $ 30 million. Much of the cost was covered by insurance. On April 10, 2011 Elton John appeared as the first artist after the tornado in the hall, which was still externally under construction.
