Provo is a city in the state of Utah in the United States of America . It is the seat of Brigham Young University .
The city is the administrative seat of Utah County in the US state of Utah and is located about 80 km south of Salt Lake City . Neighboring cities of Provos are Orem and Springville .
The Provo-Orem metropolitan area was named the most livable city in the USA by Gallup in 2012/13 .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city spreads over an area of 108.2 km² , of which 5.6 km² is covered with water. The water content of the total area is therefore 5.14%.
The peaks of the Wasatch Range tower over the city and Utah Lake .
Deer and now and then even pumas and moose roam the mountains of this region.

According to the 2000 census, Provo has 105,166 people in 29,192 households and 19,938 families. The population density is 1024.3 people / km². There are 30,374 residential units spread across the city, which corresponds to an average density of 295.8 / km².
The white population is most strongly represented with 88.52%, 10.47% are Hispanics or Latinos .
history
Thirty-three Salt Lake City families founded the city in 1849. The place was originally called Fort Utah by the Mormons and renamed Provo in 1850 in honor of Etienne Provost , a Franco-Canadian trapper who arrived in the region in 1825.

Culture and sights
Every July, Brigham Young University hosts the Stadium of Fire . These Independence Day celebrations are very popular with the residents and have welcomed famous personalities such as David Hasselhoff , Reba McEntire and Sean Hannity as guests.
The university is home to the group BYU Vocal Point , a successful American band that won the 2006 international championships of the Collegiate A Cappella in New York City.
Economy and Infrastructure
The software company Novell Inc. was founded in Provo in 1979 . The civil weapons manufacturer North American Arms has its headquarters there.
The Interstate 15 freeway connects Provo with the surrounding cities.
In 2008, the FrontRunner 750 began operating a train every hour between Ogden and Provo via Salt Lake City.
