Michael Coleman (painter)

Michael Blaine Coleman (born June 25, 1946 in Provo , Utah ) is an American painter and sculptor.

Life

Coleman lives and works in his hometown. He completed his studies at Brigham Young University there . The works of Albert Bierstadt , Thomas Moran , George Inness , Carl Rungius and similar artists had a significant influence on his artistic work .

In his works he also deals with the times of the Wild West , in particular with the Indians of North America . He is also known for his big game - bronze sculptures and oil paintings of mostly African animals. The style of his landscape paintings , created in the late 1960s and early 1970s, is described in Painters of the Wasatch Mountains as "Neo Barbizon ". There you can also find out that he was the first Utah artist who could earn a living by selling his paintings.

Individual works were auctioned off by the auction houses Christie's and Sotheby's . Coleman's works are in the holdings of well-known museums and private collections and have been shown in exhibitions around the world. Coleman received numerous awards.
